EXPORT REQUIREMENTS
To export your artwork from South Africa, you must be registered as an exporter with Customs and Excise, a division of SARS (South African Revenue Service).
Registration is required if:
- Shipping items valued above R150,000 (approximately $8,038.53 USD)
- Conducting commercial transactions (as Saatchi Art is a gallery providing commercial invoices, your shipment is considered a commercial transaction)
- Making more than 3 shipments in a calendar year (regardless of value)

Step 1: Initial SARS Registration
- Go to www.sarsefiling.co.za
- Register or login
- Get RLA (Registration, Licensing and Accreditation) user rights
Step 2: Prepare Required Documents:
- You may be asked for proof of residence, ID, Contact information, etc.
Step 3: Submit Application
- Complete the RLA client application on eFiling
- Upload all supporting documents through SARS Online Query System (SOQS)
Step 4: Choose Your Export Process Method Either:
- Register as an EDI user to submit your own customs documentation OR
- Hire a licensed Customs Clearing agent to handle documentation
Step 5: Monitor Application - Keep track of your application through your eFiling inbox & respond to any requests for additional information.
The following documents must be provided at the time of collection to avoid delays:
- Declaration of Authenticity (available in your Sales Dashboard)
- Commercial Invoice & Waybill (available in your Sales Dashboard)
- Photocopy of your South African ID or passport
- Photocopy of your artwork
- Your tax identification number
- Export registration documentation

Note that your artwork will only be covered under our insurance policy if it is adequately packed according to these guidelines.

- Please print and prepare your shipping documents prior to the courier's arrival. -Always use only the label and documents we have issued, as we cannot track or insure the artwork shipment otherwise.
